Why we are building VOWR
Phones are useful infrastructure. They help us work, navigate, learn and stay close to people. The problem is not technology itself. It is how easily a useful device can pull attention away from the life around it.
VOWR gives an intention more structure. A person chooses their commitment, the apps or websites it applies to and the time they want to protect. When distraction arrives, VOWR creates friction and a moment to choose again.
More than less screen time
The purpose is not to produce a perfect usage graph. It is to reclaim time for walking, family, reading, cooking, learning, rest and human connection — then build evidence that you can keep a promise to yourself.
Commitment with weight
VOWR is designed around commitment, consequence and follow-through. For eligible adults in supported markets, a user chooses a financial stake before a VOW begins. If the VOW is kept, no consequence is collected; if a break is confirmed after review, the agreed consequence may apply. The intended charitable model is for applicable collected consequences to support approved positive causes rather than become VOWR profit, subject to final operating and legal approval.
How we intend to work
- Support people without shaming them.
- Use plain language and avoid medical claims.
- Keep private choices private by design.
- Make financial and membership terms clear.
- Prefer honest limitations to inflated promises.
